State burn law takes over as county burn ban expires

burnlawMARSHALL COUNTY – A release from the Marshall County Emergency Management Office is intended to clarify any confusion over the burn ban/burn law.

The Burn Ban that was put into place on September 24th for Marshall County for absolutely no burning expired on October 1st when the State Burn Law went into effect.

The State Burn Law is in effect during what has been declared as the fire hazard seasons, October 1st through December 15 and February 15 through April 30. During these time periods, burning is allowed only between the hours of 6:00pm and 6:00am.

If you do decide to burn during the permitted time table follow these steps:
1. Pre-plan your control burn and always keep SAFETY FIRST.
2. Have a phone with you at all times and should the fire get out of your control, dial 9 1 1.
3. Have a garden hose or bucket(s) of water close by.
4. Cut fire breaks in the ground to prevent fire from getting out of control.
5. Monitor wind direction & know what structure(s) are in the path of the fire.
6. Keep watch the ENTIRE time you are burning-DO NOT LEAVE the fire unattended.
