MAYFIELD – Marshall County boys and girls soccer teams picked up district wins in a double-header at Mayfield Monday. The boys played first in a game that was decided in overtime after a regulation 2-2 tie. Austin Stockdale to Dawson Jolley gave the Marshals the 3-2 overtime win.
After a scoreless first half for both teams, Mayfield struck first in the second half on a goal by Jerardo Arellano on an assist from Noel Roman. The Marshals tied the game 1-1 on a penalty kick taken by Seth Strader following a foul on Jolley in the box.
The Marshals defense thwarted a flurry of shots from Roman with great saves by Marshall keeper Keagen Watkins and one by Luke Janiec with eight minutes to go in the game.
On an assist by Patrick Caruthers, Jolley scored to give the Marshals a 2-1 lead that was tied again at 2-2 on a goal from Roman just before regulation time ended.

Seconds into overtime, Jolley’s goal gave the Marshals an important district win and a 3-0 early season record. His two goals in the game brings his three-game total to seven out of 11 goals in the Marshals first three games.
