DRAFFENVILLE – During the last couple of weeks in March, the Marshall County tennis team played matches against McCracken County, Calloway County, St. Mary and Graves County.
Against a really strong McCracken County team, the Marshall girls lost 9-0 and the boys lost 8-0.
“McCracken County is one of the best teams in the state and they were a tough challenge for our girls”, Head Coach Tyler Brockman said. “This was a good challenge for our guys. McCracken has kids that have lots of tennis experience and we were able to compete well in many of the matches. We have to keep improving and playing smarter tennis but I think we are on the right track.”
In matches against Calloway County, the girls fell just short losing 5-4 and the boys lost 6-3.
Hannah Travis, Nikki Fehrenbacher and Allie Fiske all won their matches against Calloway as did the doubles teams of Travis/Fehrenbacher and Waggoner/Harrington.
Coach Brockman said the match was close throughout and thought the two teams were very evenly matched.
Conner Jones picked up the only singles win on the boy’s side with two doubles teams picking up wins by Jones/Gold and Forbis/Champman.
“This was another close match for our boys”, Brockman said. “We are playing extremely competitive tennis right now.”
Coach Brockman is happy with the play of Jones and the doubles teams and feels the boys will continue to keep improving and getting better.
Against St. Mary on March 27th, the girls won 5-0 and the boys 2-1.
Girl’s single matches were won by Fehrenbacher, Travis and Harrington and in doubles, picked up a win from Padgett and Vincent.
