It’s a game that is always circled on the schedule when Marshall County and Christian Fellowship – two schools less than a half mile from each other – meet on the volleyball court in a Fourth District duel. Both teams were coming off of hard-fought five set matches on Tuesday, looking to turn around those losses with a district win.

Tied 3-3 in the first set, Halle Langhi served two straight aces to put the Lady Marshals up by two. Neither team could extend a lead more than two until a three point gap opened up at 13-11 in favor of the Lady Marshals. Down by five at 19-14, CFS out-scored the Lady Marshals 10-2 to take set one 25-21, the final point on a perfectly placed ball from junior Lillian Burnett.

Junior Cori Hood (14) finished with five kills, four aces and two blocks for CFS.

In set two, a kill by Tori Shaw gave the Lady Marshals a 7-3 lead but a few mistakes gave the Lady Eagles the edge and they took the lead at 9-8. Two kills by Sarah Bremmerkamp fueled a 4-0 run by the Lady Marshals and their lead stretched out to eight points at 22-14. Extended rallies were a highlight as the Lady Marshals battled for the final three points to close out set two 25-21 and even the match 1-1.

The Lady Marshals led 20-9 in set three, the 11 point lead closed to nine when Jayden Jackson found some open floor for a CFS point. The Lady Eagles would get as close as seven points at 24-17 on a kill by Cori Hood but the set was closed out on a kill by Shaw to give the Lady Marshals a 2-1 lead in the match.

Another kill by Burnett in set four put the Lady Eagles up 4-2 and four ties later, two straight kills by Langhi gave the Lady Marshals a 9-8 lead they would extend to as many a seven points at 18-11 before the Lady Eagles cut it back to two at 20-18 on a volley placed in open court by Gracie Howard. A kill by Bremmerkamp and two by Langhi helped close out the final five points for a 25-22 fourth set win to take the match 3-1.

For the Lady Marshals, Langhi finished the night with 21 kills and seven aces. Sarah Bremmerkamp had eight kills, Neely Northcott six and Alyssa McClain had five. Annie Beard had 26 assists and Laney Evans 12. Ashley Bremmerkamp had 26 digs and Maddie Irvan 23.
