Galloway signs with the University of Tennessee

Sophie Galloway signed on Wednesday with the University of Tennessee track and field program. Sophie is joined by her parents Nathan and April.

Sophie Galloway signed her National Letter of Intent to run track for the University of Tennessee –  the 5-time State Champion taking her talent to the SEC.

As a freshman, Sophie won the state title in both the long jump (18:04.00) and triple jump 38:10.00). Her sophomore season she took the title in three events – long jump (18:03.25), triple jump (40.07.00) and 100 meter hurdles (14.45). Her 2019 triple jump mark is the current state record.

The coronavirus pandemic cancelled her junior track and field season but she has continued to train toward specializing in the Heptathlon, an event she will compete in at Tennessee. The Heptathlon is made up of seven events (100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200-meter dash, long jump, javelin, and 800-meter run) and spans two days of competition.

Sophie is a 3-time recipient of the prestigious Gatorade Player of the Year award for Kentucky. One of the best in the state, Sophie’s work ethic, passion and kindness has made her a role model on and off the track.

She looks forward to her senior season as part of the Marshall County track and field team this spring.
