Marshall County takes three set win over CFS

Halle Langhi had 14 kills for the Lady Marshals in their 3-0 district win over CFS. Langhi also led in digs with 11.

Marshall County picked up their second win over a district opponent to improve to 2-0 in district play and 4-2 overall after Tuesday’s 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-11) victory over Christian Fellowship. It was the second loss for CFS (6-2) who are 1-1 in district play with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-10) win over Murray on Sept. 15.

Last season, they split regular season district games and the Lady Eagles went on to beat the Lady Marshals in the district championship.

Following a 3-3 tie in the opening set, the Lady Marshals went on a 8-0 run before CFS earned their next point and a side out. A kill from Halle Langhi gave the Lady Marshals a 12-4 lead and throughout the rest of the set, the Lady Eagles chipped away at the lead until they trailed by just two at 22-20. A hit by Clara Bradley went out on CFS to put Marshall County up 23-20 and they held the three point margin to win set one 25-22.

CFS jumped out to a 4-0 lead in set two before the Lady Marshals closed the gap to trail by one at 5-4 on kills from Bradley and Langhi. A kill from Lillian Burnett, who led the team with nine on the night, put CFS back up by two at 6-4 but the Lady Marshals would take their first lead of the game at 7-6. Two more nice kills by Burnett kept CFS within one point and the set stayed tight until Marshall County went up 23-21 and finished out the set with the final two points to win 25-21.

With the exception of a 1-1 tie, the Lady Marshals led the entire third set and built a 14-5 lead behind  several kills from Langhi and Bradley who led the team with 14 each. They took their largest lead of the set at 21-8 on the way to a 25-11 win to close out the match.

The play of Bailey Pritchett with 10 blocks and setter Peyton Gresham with 31 assists was another key to the Lady Marshals win. Burnett led CFS in kills with nine followed by Emma Fletcher with seven and Rhema Howard had 15 assists.

Up next, the Lady Marshals will play at Graves County (4-3) and CFS will head to Murray (5-4) on Thursday.


In their two previous games, the Lady Marshals lost 3-0 (16-25, 13-25, 7-25) to McCracken County and beat CCA 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-14).

The JV Lady Marshals beat McCracken County 2-1 (14-21, 22-20, 21-16) on Thursday. In the varsity match, Langhi and Bradley had seven kills each, Gresham had 28 assists and Pritchett led in digs with 12. For the Lady Mustangs, Jenna Henshaw had 11 kills and Jayda Harris 10. Piper Mullinax recorded 34 assists and Patti Wilson led in digs with eight.

Friday against CCA, the JV team won 2-0 followed by the varsity three set win. Langhi led in kills with 16 and had five aces. Bradley had 12 kills, Gresham led in assists with 28 and Pritchett in digs with 11. CCA was led in kills by Lilli Cinard with three and Olivia Carroll with 14 digs.
