Class of 2020 – Mason Cosner

Mason is a middle distance specialist and was entering his fourth season with the Marshall County boy’s track team. Coming into the spring season, Mason opened up with a 4:44.4 in the 1600 meters —only three seconds off his outdoor P.R. of 4:41.21. Mason also ran a 2:02.69 in the 800 meters and was an integral piece of the 4 x 800 meter relay.

Mason had stepped up his mileage this year hoping to improve both his 800 and 1600 meter times. According to Coach Andrew Johnston, “Mason was a different animal this year. Mason had dropped about 30 seconds off his 5k time during cross country and I was super excited to see how that was going to play out on the track. He is another guy who was a staple on our 4×800 meter squad and an individual scorer who will be hard to replace.”

Mason currently holds the programs second fastest 2,000 meter steeplechase time with a 7:04.44. He was also a member of the 4 x 800 meter relay team which ran the fifth fastest time in school history. He was named to the All-Area 1 First Team in the 4×800 and  800 meters his junior season.

As a member of the cross country team, this past fall, Mason helped lead the Marshals to a seventh place finish at state, the best in over 20 years and earned All-Area 1 and Class 3A First Team selections.

Mason’s future plans are to become an apprentice at the IBEW in Paducah as an Electrician.
