Kentucky Universities closing, finishing spring semesters with online/alternative instruction

Across the nation, Universities are transitioning to online and alternative instruction for students throughout the remainder of the 2020 spring semester and spring Commencement ceremonies have been postponed in many cases. These announcements come while students are on spring break.

Murray State University, West Kentucky Community and Technical College, Western Kentucky University, University of Kentucky and University of Louisville have all followed suit upon recommendations by the Center for Disease (CDC) control to do their part to help lessen the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Murray State University

Online/alternative instruction, effective Monday, March 23, 2020, will continue through the end of the Spring Semester. Our faculty will guide this process (previously, we announced an end of online/alternative instruction on Sunday, April 5, 2020).

Effective Sunday, March 22, 2020, at 2 p.m. (CT), our residence halls will not be reopening following the Spring Break and will remain closed for the remainder of the semester.

Students need to begin making preparations now to move out of their residence halls. Move out instructions and schedules will be distributed via email no later than 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, from the Housing Office. All personal items will be expected to be out of the residence halls by Friday, March 27, 2020, at 8 p.m. (CT). Students who cannot leave campus will receive instructions from the Housing Office by Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at 4 p.m.

Spring Commencement postponed.

WKCTC

West Kentucky Community and Technical College moved from in-person classes to remote learning, beginning Monday, March 16, school officials announced. Students should not report to class until further notice.

Western Kentucky University

WKU will continue to deliver instruction via alternate delivery formats through the end of the spring semester, with no face-to-face instruction occurring the remainder of this academic term.

WKU strongly encourages all students who can go home to do so. Very limited University housing will remain open for the remainder of the semester; and only for those students who demonstrate the need to remain on campus. A Request for Exemption to Remain in University Housing form will be available soon. more information about move-out plans in the next 48 hours, along with a refund schedule for housing and dining.

University of Kentucky

Instruction will move to online or other alternative learning formats, effective March 23 through the end of the Spring 2020 semester (previously, announced using such formats through April 3).

Requiring students to return to their homes unless they receive approval to remain on campus. Will communicate by Thursday, March 19, more details regarding moving out of residence halls.

Spring Commencement postponed.

University of Louisville

All classes will be offered remotely starting Mar. 18. Open but recommend employees work remotely. Classes will be delivered remotely starting March 18 through April 5. Campus buildings remain open but recommend employees work remotely if eligible.

All students who are able to do so are asked to stay away from campus, but for many of students, the campus is their home and cannot leave campus.  Louisville is working to provide all the services and support these students will need.
