4-Hers get creative for the Holidays

4-Hers making holiday jewelry, décor and more.

Fifteen years of 4-Hers creativity was celebrated on November 5th! Nineteen Marshall County 4-Hers prepared for the holidays at the 15th Annual 4-H Holiday Workshop. During the workshop, the 4-Hers learned to make various crafts and how to prepare holiday treat favorites. Several plan to give their handmade items to friends and family on their Christmas gift list.

The 4-Hers rotated through six work stations throughout the day. These included: polymer clay jewelry, light it up (decorated candles), door wreaths, wind chimes, bird feeders and Rudolph’s treat. The 4-Hers were provided lunch and got to assemble their own desserts (cupcakes in a jar). Fruit trays and pretzels dipped in white and milk chocolate were provided for snack time.

The holiday workstations were led and coordinated by Roxanne Lee, Marshall County Program Assistant. The polymer clay jewelry station was taught by 4-H volunteers, Candace Miller and Callie Bridges. Jody Morgan (4-H volunteer) and Teri Ford (Master Gardener volunteer) worked together at the light it up station. 4-H volunteer, John Miller, took the lead at the wind chime, upcycling station. Upcycling is taking objects (such as jar lids, pop tops and bottle caps) and using them for something other than their intended use.

Holiday Workshop participants were helped by 4-H teen leaders – Clay Gordon, Olivia Miller, Morgan Westerfield, Emily Rowland and Baella Morgan. 4-Hers were provided cloth bags, which they decorated, to carry their crafts home.
