The Marshals in the Battle at the Bridge golf tournament at the Old Bridge Golf club (par 72) in Danville Saturday. They joined a solid field of 15 teams from central and eastern Kentucky on a course the team had not played before.

A team score of 294, their fifth straight tournament score under 300, was good for a fourth place finish. Clay County won the tournament with a score of 286 followed by Trinity in second with 286 and St. Xaveir ‘B’ third with 293.

Individually, Jay Nimmo shot a 2-under 70 to tie for fourth place with Andreas Olsen of Trinity.  Logan Liles of Lewis County was medalist with a 5-under 67 followed by Alex Hadden of Henry County in second with 68 and Chase Campbell of Clay County shot 69 to take third.

Marshall County scores behind Nimmo, Tyler Powell shot 74, Camdyn McLeod 75, Trey Wall 75 and Drake Butler 85.

In other competitions throughout the tournament, Powell won the Longest Drive competition with a drive of 304 yards and McLeod won the “Closest to the Pin” chipping competition with a chip that landed five and a half inches to the pin.

“It was another good, solid effort from the team”, Coach Keith Bell said. “We weren’t able to play the course on Friday but we did ride the whole course in order to become a little more familiar with it. There were several blind tee shots and narrow fairways that players had to deal with during the round. There were a few of the top teams in the state also playing in the tournament.”

Bell said Nimmo got off to a good start and was one over at the turn, going on to sink four birdies with one bogey on the back nine to complete his 2-under round of 70. Powell made the turn at nine at 2-over par and worked the back nine to finish with two bogeys, two birdies and five pars for a 2-over 74.

Bell added, McLeod’s start was rough on hole #1 with two shots in the water and carded a nine for the par four but battled back from that and played the rest of the round at 2-under to finish +3 on the day. Wall was 3-over after nine holes but also finished strong on the back nine with three birdies on three of the last four holes to finish at +3. Butler also didn’t like his start to the day and was +9 after nine holes but worked the back nine with five pars and four bogeys to finish +13.

The Marshals will head to Franklin, Ky. next Saturday to play in the Franklin-Simpson Wildcat Shootout. The field will be made up of the top teams from central Kentucky at Franklin Country Club.

Saturday, August 31, the Marshals and Lady Marshals will host the Marshall County Invitational at  Calvert City Country Club.
