Lady Marshals celebrate record-setting season

The Lady Marshals softball team celebrated the 2019 season at their annual banquet held at the Children’s Arts Center in Benton.

Marshall County softball held their end of season banquet Monday at the Children’s Arts Center in Benton to celebrate a successful 2019 season.

This year’s team accomplished many things along with a district and regional title and trip to the state tournament, they finished first in the region and third in the state in fielding percentage. They were seventh in the state in triples, fourth in stolen bases, eighth in wins, 12th in team hits, 29th in team batting average and 29th in ERA.

Several school records were set by this year’s squad including most stolen bases in a season, most wins in a two-year span, most hits in a season, most triples in a season, most runs scored in a season, first senior class to accumulate 100 wins in four years and first team to earn back-to-back regional championships.

Senior Awards- Gracey Murt and Addie Young
Pitching MVP- Gabbi Lovett
Offensive MVP- Presley Jezik
Co-Defensive MVP- Presley Jezik and Cayson Conner (2 years in a row)
Overall MVP- Gracey Murt
Speed Award- Charley Pursley
Most Improved- Mckenzie Elkins
“We Will” Award- Sarah Stokes
110 Percent Coaches Award- Abella Curts
.400 Club- Presley Jezik
.300 Club- Cayson Conner, Gracey Murt, Charley Pursley, Layne Pea, Addie Young, Kinley Edwards, Sarrena Tomassi and Riley Piercefield
Golden Glove Club- Presley Jezik, Addie Young, Gabbi Lovett, Kinley Edwards, Gracey Murt, Riley Piercefield and Cayson Conner

Cayson Conner received her All-District Team award at Monday’s banquet. A miscalculation of votes left Conner off the team when it was announced. Also joining her on the All-District Team were teammates Addie Young, Presley Jezik, Gracey Murt and Gabbi Lovett.
