Marshall County team competing in the Kentucky State High School Clay Target League State Tournament

Marshall County’s team ranks second after completing the regular season of competition in 1A Conference 3 of the Kentucky Clay Target League heading into Saturday’s State Tournament at the Central Kentucky Gun Club in Berea, KY. West Jessamine leads the conference that consists of six teams.

Teddy Wynn and Austin Riley both rank in the Top 25 individuals overall from the Spring Trap Season, tied at 17 with a season average of 23.60. The two are also tied for seventh in the Top 10 final standings of 1A Conference 3. Kinsey Story ranks seventh in the state Top 10 among female competitors with a season average of 21.10 and ranks fifth in the conference. Also in the conference Top 10, Gabby Davis ranks eighth with an average of 20.10, Jasmine Emmons is ninth with 17.90 and Hayden Brummitte 10th with 17.80.

Marshall County and Whitley County are currently the only two teams across the state competing in Skeet. Marshall County finished the season ranked first in 1A Conference 3.

The Kentucky State High School Clay Target League (KYSHSCTL) is proud to announce that 264 student athletes are scheduled to participate in the 2019 Trap Shooting State Tournament, June 8th.

Student athletes representing 17 Kentucky high school teams will compete for individual and team achievements at the Trap Shooting State Tournament, scheduled for June 8th at the Central Kentucky Gun Club in Berea, KY.
Generous sponsors for the 2019 State Tournament include: Cabela’s Outdoor Fund, SCHEELS, Sportsman’s Guide, and Walker’s.

“The League continues to be the fastest-growing activity in Kentucky schools.” said John Nelson, President of the KYSHSCTL, “Participation for the State Tournament has grown tremendously since last year. It’s very exciting to see Kentucky embrace the High School Clay Target League as it has.”

This year more than 350 student athletes representing 21 high school teams participated in the 2019 Kentucky spring season. They were coached and supported by over 60 volunteers.

The Kentucky State High School Clay Target League is an affiliate of the USA High School Clay Target League, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The League is an independent provider of shooting sports as an extracurricular co-ed and adaptive activity for high schools and students in grades 6 through 12. The organization’s priorities are safety, fun, and marksmanship – in that order. Each student is required to pass a comprehensive firearm safety education course prior to participation.

Nationwide, more than 32,000 students representing over 1,000 school-approved teams participated in the League during the 2018-19 school year.
