High school tennis is well underway with four matches already in the books, starting March 7 when the Marshall County team opened up against state powerhouse McCracken County. The boy’s team won two matches but fell to the Mustangs 7-2 and the girls were shut-out 5-0 by the Lady Mustangs. Marshall County wins came from Keifer Court and a doubles win by Court and partner Kaleb Willie.
The second match of the season on March 12 against Paducah Tilghman put the boy’s team in the win column, earning a 3-2 victory while the girl’s team fell 4-1. Keifer Court and Jameson Wells won their singles matches and the doubles team of Willie and Court won in doubles play. For the girl’s team, their win came from Lindy King and Courtney Phillips in doubles.
Last Thursday against St. Mary, the boy’s posted a 5-0 win and the girl’s won 4-1. The boy’s wins came from Kaleb Willie, Jameson Wells, Parker Kerrick and the doubles team of Willie and Wells. The girl’s wins came in singles matches from Lindy King, Courtney Phillips and in doubles from the teams of King/Phillips and Harrington/Whirley.
Monday against Calloway County, the girl’s team won 6-3, the six wins coming from Lindy King, Courtney Phillips and Maci Phillips in singles and the doubles teams of King/C. Phillips, Abbey Harrington/Carlen Whirley and Mattie Dunn/M. Phillips. The boy’s team won 8-1 over Calloway County. Singles wins came from Kaleb Willie, Parker Kerrick, Pratik Pratel, Rush Robinson and Gage Houser. All three doubles teams of Willie/Court, Kerrick/Patel and Wells/Robinson picked up wins.
The Marshall County team played at Murray on Tuesday and will play at Mayfield Thursday. Home matches this season will be played at Kenlake State Resort Tennis Center.
