Calloway County Fiscal Court awarded $472,010 in discretionary funds

Calloway County Fiscal Court awarded $472,010 in discretionary funds for critical pavement improvements. Resurfacing repairs to be made to six miles of roadway

PADUCAH, Ky. (October 18, 2018) – As part of Governor Matt Bevin’s commitment to asset management and increasing economic opportunity across the state, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has awarded $472,010 in discretionary funds to the Calloway County Fiscal Court for vital resurfacing work on Van Cleave Road, Tidwell Drive and Tom Taylor Drive. Resurfacing repairs address existing surface cracks, potholes, rutting, crumbling shoulders and base failures.

“The Bevin Administration continues to focus on taking care of what we have at both the state and local level to address critical infrastructure needs that improve safety and support job creation and retention,” said KYTC Secretary Greg Thomas. “This funding builds upon existing transportation investments and allows the Cabinet to collaborate with local governments to identify projects that will have large impacts to communities.”

Former Calloway County Judge-Executive Larry Elkins identified the roads as being in need of critical surface improvements. Some of the county roads that will see improvements are farm-to-market roads that are important routes during the fall harvest.

“I would like to express my appreciation to Governor Bevin and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for awarding Callaway County $472,000 in discretionary road funding,” said Elkins. “The funds will provide much needed improvements to these county roads.”

Newly appointed Judge-Executive Kenny Imes noted the importance of investing in county roads.

“Our county’s infrastructure is a high priority as Calloway County has the second highest road mileage in the Jackson Purchase,” said Imes. “This is truly welcomed assistance and help to our citizens and residents, visitors, and future economic development.”

Projects submitted to the Department of Rural and Municipal Aid for discretionary fund consideration were evaluated by the KYTC District 1 engineering staff based on factors such as safety, economic impact and traffic volumes.

“These funds are critical in addressing the wear and tear to the roadway to ensure the safety and mobility of drivers in the area,” Senator Stan Humphries said. “I’m thankful for the priority the Governor and Transportation Cabinet have put on maintaining what we have.”

The Calloway County Fiscal Court is responsible for administering the work and KYTC will reimburse the county for the projects.
