Down two sets to one to Community Christian Academy, the Lady Marshals rallied to tie the match 2-2 with a 27-25 win in set four. In the fifth and final set, the Lady Marshals won 15-7 to win their season-opener.
A close contest throughout, the Lady Marshals trailed CCA the entire first set, losing it by their largest margin of the match, 25-17.
After trailing 6-1 in the second set, they chipped away at the Lady Warrior’s lead to trail 8-5 before freshman Halle Langhi scored seven straight points off of her serve to put the Lady Marshals up 12-8. They would hang on to the lead, getting another three straight points with freshman Alyssa McClain back to serve, to lead 16-10. Leading 20-13, CCA went on a 7-2 run to pull to within 22-20, but two straight kills by Langhi and junior Jessica Hicks put the game away at 25-22 to tie the sets up a one each.
CCA took the third set to lead 2-1 in the match. A kill by Langhi tied the game 8-8 but they would go on to trail 14-11 before battling back to tie, then stretch the lead out to 22-14. CCA then put together 11 straight points to take the 25-22 win.
After an early 6-2 lead in set four, the back and forth battle between the two squads continued with Marshall County pulling out the win in extra points, 27-25 then going on to win the deciding fifth set 15-7 to open the 2018 season with a win.
Leading the team in kills, Langhi recorded 25 and Jessica Hicks 17. Clara Bradley led with 41 assists, Jessica Hicks had 32 digs, McKenzie Elkins 26 digs and Jessica Hicks led in service aces with 8 and as a team the Lady Marshals had 19 aces.
