McCracken County tops Marshals 10-1

The elusive first win over McCracken County for Marshall County will have to wait another day as the Marshals fell to the Mustangs 10-1 Tuesday. Moved to Edwards Jones Field due to a saturated field at Marshall County, the game began with a ceremonial first pitch thrown by Maddox Cope, brother of Preston Cope who lost his life in the Jan. 23 shooting at the high school. He was joined by parents Brian and Teresa.

The McCracken County team greeted the Copes with blue carnations with orange ribbons and “Cope 5” was painted in orange on the Mustangs “M” behind home plate.

Ty Buchmeier led off with a double, trying to stretch it out to a triple but called out on the throw.

McCracken County loaded the bases in their first at-bat, scoring on a wild pitch and RBI single by Cameron Langston for an early 2-0 lead.

The Marshals put two runners on base in the second, scoring their first run by Dalton Andersson on a sacrifice fly by Dawson Smothers, leaving two stranded on base with the third out.

An RBI single by James Michael Dodd and RBI single by Will Sykes made it a 4-1 Mustang lead at the end of two innings. They went up 7-1 in the fourth on a 2-run triple by Dodd and a sacrifice bunt by Sykes and an RBI double in the fifth by Michael Byrd put the Mustangs up 8-1.

McCracken County added their final two runs in the sixth on a wild pitch and RBI single by Jacob Ehling for the 10-1 win. Ehling pitched all seven innings for the Mustangs, allowing seven hits, one run and struck out six.

Jordan Riley pitched five innings for the Marshals, allowed eight hits, eight runs – five earned and struck out three.
