At a special called meeting Thursday, the Marshall County Fiscal Court approved $10,500 in geological work to move forward with a multi-use building that will house multiple county agencies.

The county agreed last month to contract with RBS Design Group to build a structure to replace the maintenance building on U.S. Hwy. 68 in Draffenville. The maintenance building was destroyed by a fire in January, along with several dump trucks and equipment.

On Thursday, Judge Executive Kevin Neal said he had been advised by the county attorney to have the court approve the expenditure.

“RBA presented to the fiscal court at the last court meeting and… we’ve got the agreement to perform the work. [Bacon Farmer and Workman] were going to proceed this week, but speaking with Assistant County Attorney Jason Darnall and he said this needed to be ran through the court,” Neal said.

Neal said the $10,500 included labor, equipment and other fees.

The court approved the fee.

At their previous meeting, the court discussed using the building to house county maintenance, 911 dispatch and possibly other departments.
