Newspaper delivery agent charged with burglary

A Benton newspaper worker was charged Sunday following a burglary at a local home.

According to the Benton Police Department, on Sunday, officer Steve Robinson responded to a residence on West 24th Street after a burglary was reported. Video surveillance footage showed Allan M. Stewart of Benton pull into the residence’s driveway at about 10:40 a.m. Stewart was an agent of The Paducah Sun and was delivering the newspaper while being videoed.  Stewart was observed exiting his vehicle and entering the garage. Officers said Stewart is seen exiting the garage a short time later carrying several items. Stewart was also seen at the back of the residence where a window screen had been removed and the window pried open.

A handgun was observed in a side pocket.

Officers Robinson and Caleb Curtner went to Stewart’s residence where several items from the burglary were recovered during the investigation. Stewart was arrested and charged with first degree burglary and taken to the Marshall County Jail.
