SMMS students commemorate Veterans Day with history lesson

Students at South Marshall Middle School assembled Friday morning to commemorate Veterans Day. Rev. Tom Hiter led the assembly giving a speech about what it means to be a veteran. Local veterans, some of whom regularly participate in reenactments, dressed in period uniforms to represent soldiers from the French and Indian War to the War in Iraq. Each veteran was introduced and a little history was given on the uniform they were wearing, what war it represented and what position that person in history may have held in the Armed Services. The veterans spoke one-on-one with students and some local veterans were also recognized Friday.
