Lady Marshals shut out Graves, sweep Lady Eagles in regular season games

Tuesday’s 4-0 win over Graves County put the Lady Marshals in the driver’s seat to claim the first seed in the district tournament, something they haven’t done since the 2014 season. They play their final two district games next week against Calloway County and Mayfield, two teams they beat earlier this season 5-1 over the Lady Lakers and 10-0 over the Lady Cardinals.

“They were ready to play in the warm up, came out with more energy than I’ve seen”, Coach Michael Boone said. Boone was happy to see that saying they have been a second half team, but getting that first goal against Graves County took longer  than he would like to see.

Nearly 35 minutes in, Carmen Gunn scored the Lady Marshals first goal on an assist by Bailey Wood, that began the quick trio of goals with Camryn Crass making it 2-0 two minutes later and just seconds before the whistle, Wood on an assist by Camryn made it a 3-0 game at halftime.

“Anytime you’re putting that much pressure on a team, if one goes in attacking wise…a lot of goals are scored five minutes after one goes in”, Boone said.

Just over 33 minutes into the second half, Bailey Wood made it a 4-0 game, getting her second goal of the game.

The Lady Marshals took 24 shots in the win compared to six for Graves County. The win moves them to 8-5-1 on the season while the Lady Eagles drop to 5-3.
