Soccer teams earn back to back shutouts over Mayfield and Graves

Carmen Gunn scored three goals against Mayfield and one against Graves County in the Lady Marshals shut-out wins.

Over the past two days, the Lady Marshals and Marshals have accomplished four shut-outs and two double-header sweeps in district games against Mayfield and Graves County. Monday at Mayfield, the girls won 10-0 and boys 5-0 and that was followed up on Tuesday with the girls getting a 4-0 win and the boys winning 3-0.

The Lady Marshals led 7-0 at halftime at Mayfield on goals from Camryn Crass, Carmen Gunn (C. Crass assist), Gunn (C. Crass assist), Camryn Crass (Tori Ford assist), Chasse Clark (Elizabeth Castleberry assist), Gunn and Camryn Crass. Three more goals in the second half finished off the game, coming from Bailey Wood (Lindy Kings assist), Kylee Crass (Wood assist) and Camryn Crass.

Mayfield had no shots in the game. The Lady Marshals had 27 shots, 15 on goal and three corners. Shut-out by keeper Carlen Whirley.

Tuesday at Graves County, the Lady Marshals took a 2-0 lead at halftime on goals by Camryn Crass on a hand ball penalty call in the box against the Lady Eagles and Kylee Crass on an assist by Camryn. Their two second half goals came from Gunn on an assist by Kylee and with under two minutes to go, Wood scored the final goal of the game.

Whirley earned another shut-out with nine saves, the Lady Marshals had 19 shots, 15 on goal and four corners while Graves County had nine shots, six on goal and five corners.

The Lady Marshals dropped two games on Saturday at 2-0 to Oldham County, a #10 pre-season pick and 2-1 to Daviess County. Their record is 3-2.

Cole Jewell scored two of the Marshals three goals in their win over Graves County.

Against Mayfield, the Marshals five goals came from five different players – Kegan McKenty, Eric Hicks, Jacob Karmer, Austin Stockdale and Isaac Steele. Assists went to Kramer, Jonathon Roberts and Steele while Tyler Belcher had five saves in the shut-out.

At Graves County, Cole Jewell got the Marshals on the board 20 minutes into the game that held until halftime for a 1-0 lead. Graves County keeper Luis Macias made a couple nice saves to keep the Marshals from scoring another goal before the half.

A couple of yellow cards were given to Marshall’s Jadrien Evans and later on Graves’ Kory Fulcher for rough play before Austin Stockdale scored on a penalty kick to make it 2-0.

Jewell scored his second goal of the game to put the Marshals in control at 3-0, the final score of the game.

The Marshals are 4-0 going into Thursday’s game at home against Calloway County in a double-header with the Lady Marshals.
