DRAFFENVILLE – McCracken County still hasn’t lost a Region 1 game but the Lady Marshals gave it their best shot on Monday at home in an offensive battle that produced a combined 29 hits, but the Lady Mustangs prevailed winning 14-10.
Tied 1-1 at the end of the first inning, McCracken County added three runs in the top of the third, scoring on a ground out and error while the Lady Marshals added a run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Gracey Murt to trail 4-2.
The Lady Mustangs scored six runs in the top of the fourth as expected with their stable of great hitters. Abby Shoulders hit a two-run single, Kalli Harris a one-run triple, a run scored on a wild pitch and a ground out brought in their sixth run of the inning to take a commanding 10-2 lead.
An RBI single by Sarenna Tomassi in the bottom of the fourth put one more run on the board for the Lady Marshals that McCracken answered in the top of the fifth, scoring on an error to take a 11-3 lead.
Marshall County put together a six-run inning of their own in the fifth that began on singles by Murt, Kaycee Kemp and Payton Smothers to load the bases. Murt scored on a wild pitch with two more runs scoring on a sacrifice fly by Lexee Miller to cut the Lady Mustangs lead to 11-6. Three more runs scored on two outs on doubles by both Presley Jezik and Cayson Conner to cut the McCracken lead down to two at 11-9.
The Lady Marshals made it an 11-10 game in the bottom of the sixth, with Smothers crossing the plate on a ground out by Miller but the Lady Mustangs win was sealed in the top of the seventh on a three-run home run by Lindsey Carroll.
Lakyn Largent earned the win on the mound in 4.2 innings, allowed five hits, two earned runs and striking out four.
