You Can’t Fail if You Don’t Quit!

jt parrishAbraham Lincoln failed in business and lost many times in politics before he was elected President of the United States. He very well may have been the greatest President of all time. At least many think he was. He did lead the nation through the Civil War and Preserved the Union. His life proved conclusively, that failure is an event, not a permanent condition.

The only time failure is permanent is when you fail, quit, and sit down beside it and continue to rehearse it in your mind. If you get up, dust yourself off, and go again you will find the best is yet to be. You have to ignore the naysayers and prophets of doom and gloom.

When I became Christian at age 19, some in the community said it was just a fad, a stage I was going through and it would soon wear off. On person opined that it would last a couple of weeks. Well, they were wrong. Instead of wearing off, it is wearing on. In my 82nd year I am by far a more committed, happy, and sold out to Christ Christian than I was all those years ago. It isn’t wearing off, it is wearing on.

Have I ever had any problems, rough times, and failures? Yes, but I never quit. You can’t lose if you don’t quit! Someone asked me if I ever thought about resigning the ministry and quitting during times of difficulty and reversals. My answer: “Certainly. If I had quit and moved one mile every time I thought about it, I would be living in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean right now!”

What did I do? I just kept showing up every morning. The Christian life is a walk, not a hundred yard dash. Trust in the Lord, commit you way to Him, obey His word and be led by His Spirit and He will lead you the right way and all the way through your life.

Babe Ruth struck out 1330 times. However he also hit 714 home runs. Don’t worry about failure. Think about the chances you miss when you don’t try. Success and failure come in the same package. Failure in itself is insignificant. It is what you do afterward that counts.

Jesus turns sinners into saints. Give Him your sins, your mistakes, your failure. He will give you His Righteousness. He will create you a new person in Christ.
Don’t quit! The Best is yet to be!
