Benton, KY, student whips up her finalist recipe for a national cooking contest

Washburn

Izzy Washburn, a fifth-grade student at Central Elementary School in Benton, KY, is in the running to win a $30,000 cafeteria makeover for her school. Izzy is the same young lady who attended the Kids’ State Dinner as Kentucky’s representative and had lunch with First Lady Michelle Obama after her fourth-grade science project on healthy eating gained national attention.

This fall Izzy entered the Ben’s Beginners™ Cooking Contest, a national contest put on by the Uncle Ben’s® Brand that promotes cooking healthy meals at home. Parents with children in grades K-8 were invited to submit a photo of themselves preparing a rice-based dish with their child. Izzy was chosen as one of 25 finalists and now needs your help to become one of this year’s five winners. The five grand prize winners, partially determined by number of online votes, will win a $30,000 cafeteria makeover for their school.
