Horse racing and tourism have combined to create an exciting venture in Marshall County.
According to spokesperson Lois Cunningham, the owner of Megson Farms on US Hwy 68 East near Fairdealing, Berva Megson has agreed to partner with the Kentucky Lake Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau to bring much needed attention to the Lakes Area.
The ranch, which is home to the nation’s largest herd of pure white racing thoroughbreds, has changed it’s name to incorporate the county’s recent branding initiative.
However, the ranch isn’t the only thing getting a new name.
Three of the five yearlings will be named “Kentucky Lake.” “Lake Barkley” and “Kenlake.”
According to Cunningham, the horses will be muscled up until they are two-years old and then sent off to Eddie Cruthers at Cedar Point Farm for training before being sent off to the racing circuit.
Additionally, the horses and jockey’s will be wearing silks that are emblazoned with the Kentucky Lake Chamber of Commerce logo.
The announcement came at a media event on the ranch this past Saturday where Megson announced that public tours of the ranch will be given beginning next week.
Times for tours are Friday and Saturday through the end of November from 1:00 to 3:00 pm each day, before closing for the winter and reopening by late April.
Tours are by appointment only and can be made by calling (270) 703-6008.
