MAYFIELD – Through 80 minutes of regulation, Graves County and Marshall County were still scoreless, sending the game into its first overtime which ended still 0-0. In the 2nd five minute overtime, a minute and a half in, Dawson Jolley sent the ball blazing into the goal following a throw in by Daniel Garner to give the Marshals the win.

The game began with a flurry of shots from Jolley and Austin Stockdale and Graves County’s Rodrigo Garcia, stopped on a great save by Keagen Watkins. A straight red was issued to midfielder Juan Montes which would put the Eagles down one player for the remainder of the game. This was followed by a yellow card issued to Garcia.

Both teams missed some scoring opportunities in the first 10 minutes of the second half with Graves controlling the game despite being short a player and with 14 minutes to go, Garcia received his second yellow which led to an ejection and the Eagles were then down two players.

In the closing few minutes of regulation, Caleb McNeely took a shot on goal, the Eagles had a couple of direct kicks that missed the mark and Seth Strader would take a final direct kick for the Marshals that was deflected by the Eagles.

In the first overtime period, Marin Murillo took a direct kick that went off a couple of Marshall players followed by a chance on a penalty kick taken by Brady Wetherington that went wide and finally Jolley with an opportunity as the game went into the second overtime period where Jolley’s ‘golden goal’ gave the Marshals a 1-0 win.

Following the game, Head Coach Andy Pagel commended the Eagles on how they competed after playing one man down for 60 minutes and two down for the final 20 minutes plus overtime periods. Pagel felt his team began to get their rhythm and the Eagles started to lose theirs and ended up paying the price for it.

The Marshals had 17 shots, 9 on goal while the Eagles had 20 shots, 9 on goal.

The Marshals need to win the remainder of their district games over Mayfield, Calloway and Murray for the coveted #1 seed in the 2nd District Tournament. If the two teams end the season tied, the tie breaker would go to the Eagles in goals allowed due to their 8-4 win over the Marshals on August 23rd.

Marshall County (9-3-1) will host the Calvert City Insurance/Heritage Bank Classic on Saturday with games at 10:00 am against Owensboro and 7:30 pm against Tates Creek.
