KSP warns against leaving children in hot cars

FRANKFORT, KY – Children and hot cars can quickly become a life-threatening combination, and Kentucky State Police officials want parents and caregivers to avoid such a tragedy.

State police spokesman Sgt. Michael Webb advises never leaving a child in an unattended car, even if the windows are down. Make sure everybody gets out when unloading, and don’t forget sleeping babies. As a reminder, leave a stuffed animal in the car seat and move it up front when the child is in the car seat. Or put your purse or briefcase in the back seat to remind you there’s a child in the car.

Webb says curious children sometimes enter a vehicle on their own, so be sure to lock your car. And if a child is missing, check the car and trunk first.
