UPDATE: Northbound lanes of US 641/Poplar Street in Benton OPEN

traffic alert

UPDATE: US 641 is OPEN at this site in Benton.
The roadway reopened to traffic just after 2 p.m., CDT.
KYTC personnel have posted Uneven Pavement signs on the bridge approach as some
settling of the roadway is likely over the next few days.
Traffic will be allowed to run on the repaired area for a week or two to allow it to settle.
A crew will then place a more permanent layer of asphalt over the repaired area.

BENTON – The northbound lanes of US 641/Poplar Street are closed in Benton.  This closure is near the 8 mile marker in Marshall County between 16th Street and 15th Street in Benton along the oneway northbound section of US 641.

Floodwaters have eroded pavement at the north end of the Town Creek Bridge.  A KYTC bridge inspector has checked the bridge and found that it is sound.  However, erosion of the road base at the north end of the bridge has made the pavement unsafe for travel.

This northbound closure is along US 641 near the Benton Drive-In at the north edge of Benton City Park.

Northbound passenger vehicles may self-detour via 17th Street, to Park Avenue to reconnect to US 641/Poplar Street via 14th Street.  Trucks will have to seek an alternate route via the US 641-Spur at Benton.

The roadway at this site will likely remain closed for several days to allow engineers to determine the extent of repairs that may be required.

Southbound traffic along US 641/Main Street is moving normally.
