This is War

free cross picWhen tragedy strikes, we want to place blame. It’s easier to accept if we can lay it on the shoulders of someone else. The President, special interest groups, politics, religion, the media, each other, even God. And although we’ve assigned it a special title, we’re not living in a gun or rape culture. It’s much worse than that. We’re living in a sin culture. Disaster is a constant and has been since the beginning. The world uses artillery and violence to make a statement, push an agenda or declare power. Let it not be so with you.

Christians, your tools to engage in this evil world are found in Galatians 5. Use love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control to win souls, heal hearts and comfort the broken. Lead them to Jesus by the way you serve and the careful words you choose. Remember that your mission isn’t to intimidate or judge but to give glory to God and grace to others. We are all in this together and instead of blaming, may we find ways to bless. Refuse to let fear dictate how you treat your neighbor especially your neighbors who live, labor and love differently. Yes, this is war. Fight boldly but do it beautifully.
