Information on Kentucky colleges and the price you will pay

Students will have to wait until next year to get free tuition at one of Kentucky’s two-year colleges.

Governor Matt Bevin yesterday scuttled the plan, saying it’s going to take some time to properly plan for the Work Ready Scholarship program.

Democrats made the free tuition offer the centerpiece of their budget. Democratic leaders at the statehouse are howling the delay will cost students and their families time and money.

Additionally, state regulators have approved maximum tuition increases of about $500 a year for students at Kentucky’s colleges and universities.

The Council on Postsecondary Education approved tuition increases of up to $547 per student per year for the University of Kentucky and $527 per student per year for the University of Louisville.

The universities of Western Kentucky, Northern Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State, Murray State and Kentucky State can raise tuition a maximum of $432 per student per year.

The 16 institutions in the Kentucky Community & Technical College System can raise tuition by $9 per credit hour.
