Scam affecting senior citizens in Marshall County

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office is receiving reports of a scam affecting our senior citizens.

The scam involves a phone call in which the caller identifies themselves as a grandchild before giving a pretext as to why they need money sent to them, such as: car crash, arrest, etc.

When the victim checks with their grandchild they never had made such a call.

Additionally, IRS scam calls are still circulating in the county. Remember, the IRS will never ask for personal information or try to collect taxes over the phone.

If you receive an unsolicited call or e-mail that you are suspicious of, hang up or delete it immediately and contact your local law enforcement agency.
