CFS Lady Eagles softball off to 4-2 start

DRAFFENVILLE – Christian Fellowship’s Lady Eagles softball team is off to a great start this spring winning their first three games over Fulton City, St. Mary and Dawson Springs before dropping their first game to Trinity Whitesville. They are 4-2 in early season play with games coming up in the next two days against Caldwell County and Fort Campbell, a team they beat twice last season.

In their first regular season game against Fulton City, CFS won 8-2 behind the pitching of Maddie Ortt who struck out five. Ortt also led the way at the plate going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI’s.

Down 1-0 in the bottom of the 4th, CFS scored 7 runs that began on a single by Abbie Fletcher and double by Rachel Howard.  Jaycie Jackson singled and Abigail Cima doubled with a couple stolen bases thrown in on their way to a 7-1 lead, adding one more run in the 5th.

At St. Mary on March 17th, CFS won 10-9 on 10 hits in a tight back and forth battle with the Lady Vikings. St. Mary led 9-8 at the end of the 6th inning. CFS scored 2 runs in the top of the 7th to take the lead. Edie Little landed a base hit that was followed by a 2-run home run by Cima to give the Lady Eagles the win.

The Lady Eagles picked up their third straight win 2-1 over Dawson Springs on Friday. Dawson Springs led 1-0 after 5 innings when CFS took the lead with 2 runs in the top of the 6th on a single by Little, then Cima reached on an error, Ortt walked and Cima scored on a wild pitch to tie 1-1 and the go-ahead run was scored by Ortt when Maddie Halton reached base on an error.

CFS dropped their first game of the season to Trinity Whitesville in a 15-0 four inning game. Trinity scored 5 runs in the 3rd and 10 in the 4th on 17 hits.

CFS was back in the win column on Monday with a 11-7 win over Mayfield on 9 hits. The Lady Eagles trailed 3-0 early, then tied the game 3-3 going on to tie again at 4-4 in the 3rd inning. CFS added 5 runs in the 3rd inning which gave them the lead for good. Ortt struck out 8 batters on her way to getting the win. Shelley went 2/4 at the plate hitting a triple and batting in 2 runners. Grace Miller was also 2/4 with a double and RBI.

Calloway County handed CFS their 2nd loss of the season on Tuesday, 12-2 on 12 hits. The Lady Lakers led 6-0 before the Lady Eagles put 2 runs on the board on a double by Shelley that scored Miller and Nelson. Calloway put the game away with a 6-run 6th inning. Laken Kelso pitched 6 innings for the Lady Lakers striking out 13 batters.
