Secretary Grimes Opens Online Poll for Annual Slogan Contest

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 17, 2016) - Students throughout the Commonwealth are
participating in Kentucky's 27th annual Secretary of State Slogan Contest. Secretary
of State Alison Lundergan Grimes invites the citizens of Kentucky to vote for their
favorite slogan in an
online<http://apps.sos.ky.gov/secdesk/essaycontest/sloganpublicpoll.aspx> poll today
through March 2.

"More than 1,000 students submitted entries for our annual Slogan Contest," said
Grimes. "It's thrilling to watch young Kentuckians get engaged and be part of our
elections process. I congratulate all of the contestants for their creativity in
highlighting the significance of voting."

Kentucky's students in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade were invited to enter
their best work in the contest. All entries were judged on creativity and the
slogan's ability to convey the importance of voting and civic engagements. The
Secretary of State's office has narrowed the entries down to 20 finalists.

Citizens are encouraged to vote view the finalists and vote for their favorite
slogan at www.sos.ky.gov<http://www.sos.ky.gov>. The poll will remain open through
11:59 p.m., ET, on March 2.

The first, second and third-place winners in the Slogan Contest will receive cash
awards worth $1,000, $600 and $400, respectively.

The Office of the Secretary of State is proud to partner with KEA and KEA Retired,
the University of Kentucky Scripps Howard First Amendment Center, the Kentucky
Department of Education, and Kentucky Council of Postsecondary Education as sponsors
of the Secretary of State's contest.
