Sunday Traffic Advisory from Kentucky Transportation Cabinet

ky transportationKentucky Transportation Cabinet crews across the 12 counties of District 1 are on alert for more winter precipitation with a round of snow followed by a winter mix starting Sunday.

With the substantial amount of salt spread during snow events earlier this week, there is sufficient salt residue on highway driving surfaces to serve as pre-treating for the approaching event.

Based on the current forecast, the District 1 Snow and Ice Team is expecting about 1 to 3 inches of snow accumulation starting Sunday morning.  Snow is expected to continue into the night hours and be followed by the possibility of freezing rain and sleet in the early morning hours of Monday.

While this event is likely to create some dicey driving conditions overnight Sunday into Monday morning, temperatures are expected to rise enough by mid-day Monday to allow roadways to clear fairly quickly.

Motorists are urged to closely monitor the forecast for updates on the approaching system as a shift in the track or changes in temperature profiles could alter expected accumulation totals and arrival time for the snow.
