Commonwealth files motion in Benton man’s murder trial

After the defense issued a change of venue motion, the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s Attorney’s Office has filed a motion of their own in the murder of Jeffrey Conrad, a Benton native.

According to reports from Conrad’s defense and police on the scene of the crime, there was methamphetamine prevalent in the victim, which is what the Commonwealth wants to suppress.

Conrad is accused of shooting and killing Garlon Casey Cox after he confronted him taking items from Conrad’s storage unit in Reidland in June 2015.

Cox’s autopsy showed meth in his system, but the commonwealth says they want to exclude testimony from the defense’s expert. They say the evidence he relied on was not trustworthy, and his analysis are not true.

Conrad’s trial is set for March 16.
