Police warning residents of phone scam

Area police are warning the public of a telephone scam targeting residents in the area.

Officer Lucas Stone reported he received telephone calls from three individuals over the weekend, all three stating they had received calls from a man with a Jamaican accent claiming to be with Publisher’s Clearing House.

The caller said the individuals needed to wire money in order to receive $10,000 right away.

They said they would deliver $10 million to the individuals’ homes at a later date. P

lease be reminded not to send money to anyone requesting it over the telephone, unless you are absolutely sure who you are dealing with.

Do not provide any personal information, such as Social Security number or banking information. If you are in doubt, err on the side of caution.
