ATV wreck leads to arrest of Marshall County man

On Saturday, January 2, Deputy William Strader of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department attempted to stop an individual on Dogtown Road in Benton, who was traveling on an ATV.

The man rode around the rear of Deputy Strader’s cruiser while he had his emergency equipment activated.

As the man passed the cruiser, he struck the rear of the car causing damage to the back bumper and trunk.

The man then fled the scene, running into a ditch on the right side of the roadway losing control and wrecking the ATV.

Deputy Strader noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from Joshua M. Downing, 24, of Benton, as well as seeing alcoholic beverages around the crash site.

Due to needing medical attention, Downing was cited for Fleeing or Evading Police (1st Degree), Criminal Mischief (1st Degree) and Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence (1st Degree).
