trafficalertBENTON – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to restrict traffic to one lane on the Julian Carroll-Purchase Parkway at the KY 348 Exit 43 Benton Interchange in Marshall County starting Saturday, September 12, 2015.

Both northbound and southbound traffic along this section of the Purchase Parkway will be restricted to one lane to facilitate construction of ramp connections for the new interchange. This work zone lane restriction for Purchase Parkway traffic is expected to be in place for about 4 to 6 weeks. Motorists traveling on the Purchase Parkway should be alert for slowing and merging traffic as they approach the Exit 43 Interchange.

Motorists should use appropriate caution where equipment, flaggers, and construction personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow. Motorists using existing ramps at the interchange should use caution due to the limited merge area.

Jim Smith Contracting of Grand Rivers is the prime contractor on this $8.1 million interchange reconstruction project. The anticipated completion date is June 30, 2016.

The interchange and about a 1 mile section of the parkway is being reconstructed from the old toll booth cloverleaf ramp arrangement to a modern diamond interchange.

This project to bring the interchange up to current FHWA standards is among about 10 major projects totaling $260 million aimed at allowing Interstate 69 to be extended southward along the Purchase Parkway and northward along the Pennyrile Parkway.
