Crash on Purchase Parkway kills Indiana man, injures two, shuts down Parkway for several hours

ppaccident-mainDRAFFENVILLE – One man died and two other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on the Purchase Parkway Wednesday afternoon.

WPSD-TV, citing a report from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Dept., reported that Don L. Bounds, 66, of Bloomington, Indiana, was killed when the 2011 GMC Denali he was driving northbound was hit by a 2009 Chevrolet pickup driven by Tommy Morefield, 51, of Wingo.

Morefield and a juvenile passenger in his vehicle were both injured in the crash, which occurred when Morefield’s southbound pickup veered across the median and collided with the oncoming SUV.

After impact, Bounds’ vehicle went over a guardrail and down an embankment on the right side of the northbound lanes after the impact. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Marshall County Coroner Mitchell Lee.

The crash occurred north of Exit 47. Morefield was transported by air ambulance to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The juvenile passenger was taken by Marshall County ambulance to Baptist Health Paducah.

The parkway was closed to traffic for several hours and northbound traffic was diverted to detours via U.S. 68 and U.S. 641.ppaccident-2
