Benton’s Women’s Club dedicates Ribbons of Hope floral garden in court square plaza

bwc BENTON – Members of the Benton Women’s Club gathered on Tuesday to dedicate a new flower garden in the city of Benton, trimmed in flowers and ribboned with hope.

BWC member Darla Doss says the club used funds raised through Paint the Town Pink to give back to the community through a beautification project aimed at raising support for the cause – breast cancer awareness.

The large oval and round tin containers are filled with hibiscus and numerous other varieties of pink-splashed floral arrangements. Inside each tin is a pink ribbon trellis which will soon be outlined with the growth of the hibiscus.

Doss said the group will help maintain the garden in the plaza which will be used in the future for the main staging area during the Pain the Town Pink held each September.
Senator Danny Carroll attended the ceremony as well, donating a state flag for the plaza which has been flown over the state Capitol.

Benton Mayor Rita Dotson was on hand for the dedication of both the garden and the flag and said the city is grateful for the contributions of the women’s club adding, “We will be putting the new flag up right away.”

The floral garden is housed in the area where the fountain used to be, a plaza feature which proved to be very costly in maintenance fees for the city making this new project a win-win for everyone.
