St. Jude Children’s Hospital ‘Radiothon’ takes off today and runs through May 1 on WCBL 99.1 FM

stjudeBENTON – For more than 30 years, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has partnered with hundreds of radio stations from around the nation for the annual fundraising Radiothon. Over the past three decades, radio partners have helped raise more than $250 million for the St. Jude.

One such partner is Freeland Broadcasting’s WCBL 99.1 FM station in Benton. Beginning today, April 30, the two-day program will be highlighted by St. Jude patient stories, story song vignettes, celebrity involvement and radio station promotions, making it a “win-win” not just for St. Jude, but also for the listeners.

Freeland Broadcasting Manager Chris Freeland has participated in the Radiothon for three years and said, “We are proud to be part of this for the third consecutive year. St Jude’s has proved to be a blessing for so many different families and we are proud to do whatever we can to assist in those efforts.”

Freeland added that families whose children go to St. Jude never receive a bill for treatment, meals, travel or hotel if they are unable to pay. “I can’t imagine what these families are facing, but knowing they will not be burdened additionally has to be comforting. In addition to providing treatment, the life-saving research has increased the survival rate and improved the quality of life for children from around the US.”
