FAIRDEALING – A man was seriously injured today after a collision caused a vehicle to strike a gas pump at Fast Eddies in Fairdealing. According to police reports, Marshall County Sheriff’s Deputy Cory Curtner was dispatched to the scene where it was determined Danielle Keesee, 23 of Hardin, had been traveling westbound, passing several other cars to include a vehicle driven by 50 year-old James Ritter, of Benton.

Ritter was also traveling westbound on US 68 and was preparing to turn into Fast Eddie’s Gas Station. Keesee side-swiped Ritter’s vehicle which caused Kessee to steer out of control striking the gas pumps at Fast Eddies.

Seventy-seven year-old William Stull, of Benton, was using the fuel pumps at the time Keesee’s vehicle struck the pumps. A fire ignited from the impact which burned Stull, causing injuries severe enough to require him to be airlifted from the scene.

Eddie Davenport, the owner of Fast Eddie’s quickly hit the emergency shut off button for the fuel pumps and took a fire extinguisher out to extinguish the flames. Neither driver was injured in the crash nor was the passenger of Ritter’s vehicle.

The cause of the collision appeared to be that Keesee was passing in a no passing zone at the time of the collision.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Fairdealing -Olive Fire Department, Marshall County EMS, Marshall County Emergency Management, Air Evac Medical and Kentucky State Fire Marshall’s Office.
