Sheriff’s Report – March 10

sheriffOn March 7th, Sergeant Samantha Mighell was dispatched to Boone Hill Road in reference to a person yelling and possibly calling for help at an apartment complex on Boone Hill Road. Sergeant Mighell found a woman in the parking lot and investigation revealed that she was manifestly under the influence. Terin Mills age 34 of Benton was charged with Alcohol Intoxication in Public Place and lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.

On March 5th, Deputy Jason Ivey and Deputy Cory Curtner responded to a disturbance. When the officers arrived, they found a man later identified as Joshua A. Fleet age 27 of Benton. He reported being in a disturbance with his step father. Deputies returned him to the residence on Egners Ferry Road in order to speak to the step father. Joshua Fleet became upset, attempted to run away, and became violent when deputies tried to handcuff him. Fleet grabbed Deputy Ivey’s handgun in the holster. Fleet was injured in the struggle and transported by Marshall County EMS to Marshall County Hospital. He was treated and released and transported to the Marshall County Detention Center. Fleet was charged with Possession of Marijuana, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct 2nd Degree, Attempting to Disarm a Peace Officer, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On the evening of March 8th, 2015, Sgt. Eddie McGuire and Deputy Barry Howell responded to a domestic violence complaint at a residence on Brian Lane in the Sharpe area. Deputies discovered some type of firearm was discharged during the disturbance by the shooter, James Joshua Thompson. Thompson is known to be a convicted felon. As deputies were leaving the residence, they observed the vehicle passing by the driveway. Sgt. McGuire activated emergency equipment in an effort to stop Thompson. Thompson failed to yield to the emergency equipment resulting in a vehicle pursuit. Thompson fled from Pioneer Lane turning eastbound on Highway 68. Deputies pursued the vehicle 3-5 miles before the suspect surrendered in the Texas Gas parking lot without incident. Deputies located Methamphetamine and paraphernalia used to inject Methamphetamine in Thompson’s possession. Thompson was arrested and charged with:
Fleeing/Evading Police 1st Degree
Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree
Use/Possession Drug Paraphernalia
Thompson was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.

For the week of March 2nd through March 9th the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following: 28 Traffic Accidents, 1 DUI, 20 Motorist Assists, 7 Burglary/Theft reports, 2 Animal Complaints, 3 Disturbances, 11 Investigations, 3 Domestic Disturbances, 3 Warrants Served, 3 Civils Served, 22 Have a Deputy Call and 6 Traffic Stops for a total call volume of 193 calls responded to.
