He was the son of the late Maurice Mathis and the late Hedy Mathis. He was also preceded in death by one sister: Myrtle Mathis; four brothers: Ruford, Clayton, Billy, and Floyd Mathis; and one grandchild: Keeton Mathis.
He is survived by four sons: Neil Mathis (Rhonda) of Mayfield, KY, Jason Mathis (Beth) of Symsonia, KY, Doug Henson of Wyandotte, MI, and Scott Darnell of Mayfield, KY; two daughters: Cindy Whittico (Brian) of Talor, MI, and Debby O’Bryan of Wyandotte, MI; thirteen grandchidren: Justin (Courtney) Mathis, Megan (Ragon) Grimes, Bailey (LaGlora) Brooks, Douglas (Alisha) Henson, Chris Henson, Arielle (Bobby) Way, Carolyn Whittico, Alyce Whittico, Ronni (Clark) Duke, Kloie Doughty, Denise Waun, Harli (Patrick) Hamlin, and Samantha Doublin; and sixteen great grandchildren.
Arrangements are being handled by Collier Funeral Home, Benton, KY. A celebration of life for Mr. Mathis will be held at a later date.
