Kentucky students took the Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) in the Spring of 2021. Previously these tests were called Kentucky Performance Rating for Educational Progress (K-PREP). The tests were developed by Kentucky teachers and align with the Kentucky Academic Standards in each content area. As current standards had been measured in operational state assessments, the KSA name has been applied.
KSA is the annual summative assessment given in grades 3 through 8, 10 and 11 to Kentucky public school students. KSA provides content area assessments, including reading and mathematics (grades 3 through 8 and 10), science (grades 4, 7, 11) and writing (grades 5, 8, 11). Students in grades 5, 8, and 11 also took social studies as a field test.
It is important to consider the learning contexts and experiences during this school year as our schools/students faced unprecedented challenges because of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Days in remote learning, access to the Internet, alternating schedules, school closures, along with health concerns of students, families, and employees are just a few of the conditions our schools encountered that affected these results.
