Local WoodmenLife Chapter Donates Funds to Merryman House Crisis Shelter

BENTON, KY – In support of WoodmenLife’s National Community Focus – Fight Hunger and Hunger Awareness Month, local WoodmenLife Chapter 117 of Benton, raised money through an online site to benefit the Merryman House’s Crisis Shelter in Paducah.

Donations were accepted at WoodmenLife’s crowd-funding site, Red Basket, September 1-30 of this year. The organization pays all online fees, which means all money collected goes to support the project. Local WoodmenLife members may also qualify for a $25 match when they make a $25 donation and all contribution are tax deductible.

“We chose Red Basket because it is easy to make a donation online, whether you are near or far. It is also easy to spread the word through social media and email,” said Phillip Foley, chapter president.

The funds raised will support the shelter’s meals program. The domestic violence shelter serves a hot meal every day for up to thirty people, and meat is always in need.

Merryman House Executive Director Mary Foley says, “We are a comprehensive advocacy and support center that is devoted to addressing the needs of survivors. Providing food and a safe place to sleep are an important part of what we do. We are thankful for all donations.”
