Violet Sue Downing, 84 of Symsonia, KY died on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at the Calvert City Convalescent Center in Calvert City, KY. She was a homemaker and enjoyed caring for her kids, grandkids and family. She also enjoyed quilting, crocheting and painting.
Born Monday, October 19, 1936 in Birmingham, KY, she was the daughter of the late Willard Travis and the late Annice (Baker) Travis.
She is survived by her sons, Jeff Downing wife Carolyn of Mayfield, KY, Mark Downing wife Judy of Dyersburg, TN; daughters, Teresa McManus husband Mark of Symsonia, KY, Phyllis McMican husband Bill of Marion, KY; brothers, Larry Travis wife Linda of Paducah, KY, Jimmy Travis wife Phyllis of Camden, TN; sisters, Betty Deweese of Paducah, KY, Nancy Wood of Benton, KY, Peggy Kinsey husband Chipper of Bandana, KY; 10 grandchildren, Tara Smith husband Travis, Tracy Gugala husband Simon, Lindsey Wilkerson husband Paul, Tyler Hatchell husband Stephen, Kyle Downing wife Ashton, Benjamin McMican wife Rachel, Jacob McMican, Hunter Downing wife Victoria, Megan Downing, Taylor Downing; and 12 great grandchildren, Avery & Coen Smith, Ethan Gugala, Jayden Stinson, Kanyn & Kye Wilkerson, Zoey & Zander Hatchell, Spencer Downing and Gaberial, Chloe & Ruby McMican.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Harold Downing; her parents; brothers, Jerry Travis, Bobby Travis; and sister, Elizabeth Hibbs.
A Funeral service will be at 4:00 PM on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Collier Funeral Home located at 211 West 5th Benton, KY 42025 with the Rev. Rick D. Miller officiating.
Interment will be in Provine Cemetery, Benton, KY.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at Collier Funeral Home.
