CFS splits games at DCA Classic

Christian Fellowship’s (L-F) Gracie Howard, Lillian Burnett, Jayden Jackson and Alyssa Warren were selected to the DCA Classic All-Tournament Team.

Christian Fellowship’s week began in Elkton, Ky. last Tuesday for a game against Todd County Central and the Lady Eagles finished off the week in Danville, Ky. for two games in the DCA Classic at Danville Christian Academy.

Four Lady Eagles earned DCA Classic All-Tournament Team honors – Gracie Howard, Lillian Burnett, Jayden Jackson and Alyssa Warren.

The Lady Eagles are 5-8 and have three games coming up this week starting Thursday at St. Mary, at CCA on Friday and Saturday at Livingston Central.

Before their DCA Classic games, CFS lost 60-49 to Todd County Central. After trailing by four points at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Eagles cut the Lady Rebels lead to two at 31-29 and they trailed by just one point at 43-42 at the end of the third quarter. Todd County out-scored CFS 17-7 in the fourth for the 11 point win.

Gracie Howard led CFS with 26 points and was 9/11 at the free throw line. Todd County Central was led in scoring by eighth grader Alexis Taylor with 20 points.

CFS split their DCA Classic games, beating Sayre 52-46 on Friday and falling to Frankfort 72-56 on Saturday.

In Friday’s win over Sayre, Gracie Howard led with 21 points. She was 2/3 in 3-pointers, a perfect 11/11 in free throws and pulled in 10 rebounds. Burnett had 15 points and was 5/7 at the free throw line along with nine rebounds. Sayre was led by Sophia Richardson with 19 points.

The Lady Eagles held an eight point lead at halftime but Sayre cut it to two points at 35-33 heading into the fourth quarter. CFS out-scored Sayre 17-13 in the final frame to win by six. It was Sayre’s first game since Jan. 18 due to five COVID cancellations.

Saturday against Frankfort, CFS trailed 45-25 at halftime, a deficit too much to overcome in the second half in the 72-56 loss. Frankfort’s Jamaya Chenault led the Lady Panthers with 27 points and the junior was 13/14 from the floor. Three Lady Eagles were in double-figures – Gracie Howard with 22, Lillian Burnett 14 and Jayden Jackson 11.
