Lynn Jones, 70

Mr. Lynn Boyd Jones, 71, Mayor of the City of Calvert City, KY, died Saturday, January 30th, 2021 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Mayor Jones began his career in public service as a member of the Calvert City Municipal Water Board. He was then elected to the Calvert City Council in 1989 and was elected Mayor in 1998 with his 22 year tenure in office being the second longest in the city’s history.

Mayor Jones was dedicated to making the community the best possible place to live. Many community projects were completed during his term including a major widening of Fifth Avenue, improvements and expansions of community parks, maintaining high quality police, fire, public works, and utility departments, development of walking trail systems, the annexation of Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park into the corporate limits, improvements to the airport, and the construction of the US 62 corridor between I-24 and the state park. Mayor Jones was a member of the Board of Directors of the Kentucky League of Cities.

A native and life long resident of Calvert City, Mayor Jones was born November 13th, 1949 to Herman B. “H.B.” and Sarah Smith Jones. He attended Calvert City Grade School and was a 1967 graduate of North Marshall High School. He attended Paducah Junior College and received his bachelor’s degree from Campbellsville College and did graduate work at Liberty University. He had a career in banking and retired in 2019 after many years of service as administrator of the Calvert City Convalescent Center.

Mayor Jones was devoted to serving his Lord, his family, and the community he led. He was a founding member of Pathway Baptist Church and held numerous leadership roles in the congregation. Mayor Jones was an enthusiast of John Deere tractors and implements and a fan of University of Louisville athletics.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nancy (Wallace) Jones; one son, Todd Jones of Carolina Beach, NC; one daughter, Shannon (Archie) Anglin of Tiline, KY; three brothers, Craig Jones, and Tom and Doug Jones, both of Calvert City and four grandchildren, Clifton Anglin, Marie Anglin, Aaron Jones, and Riley Jones.

Mayor Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Sarah Jones and one sister, Cheryl Jones.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Mayor Lynn Jones will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021 at Pathway Baptist Church, 229 West Fifth Avenue, Calvert City. Pastor Mike Donald and Gregory Northcutt will officiate with interment to follow in Calvert City Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 3rd.
