
Winning their eighth straight game 56-44 over Russell County, the Lady Marshals improve to 8-1 following Saturday’s game in the Russelleville Food Bank Classic.
Less than 20 hours after their 64-50 win over Graves County on Friday, the Lady Marshals went straight to work against Russell County, taking an 8-0 lead on a game-opening basket by Halle Langhi followed by two straight 3-pointers by Jada Driver. The run ended on a basket by Maleah Preston but a 7-2 run to finish out the first quarter gave the Lady Marshals a 15-4 lead.
They out-scored the Lady Lakers 13-9 in the second quarter to lead 28-13 at halftime but Russell County wasn’t going away. They out-scored the Lady Marshals 20-11 in the third quarter, cutting the lead down to three points at 36-33 on a 3-pointer by Star Marcum. A timely basket by Cayson Conner, drawing the foul to complete the 3-point play, gave the Lady Marshals a six point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Driver opened the quarter with her fourth three of the game, Conner and Presley Jezik hit the team’s sixth and seventh 3-pointers and the lead stretched to 52-39. Four free throws by Conner closed out the Lady Marshals scoring with a final three from Sophie Shearer for Russell County.
Tuesday, the Lady Marshals will play in Murray against the Lady Tigers (5-2) in a district double-header with the Marshals.
